Group Prayer for Karyn
Hi to Karyn's community,
As I'm sure many of you have done as well, I've asked the friends of my community to join Karyn's community and help her recover. Though many of my friends have never met Karyn directly, they know of her through me and are anxious to contribute in whatever way the can.
In connection with this, a couple of my friends have said to me something to the effect of: "I'm not really a religious person and I don't really pray; what would you like me to do?"
Obviously this is a very personal matter and far be it for me to tell anyone how to pray. But when asked for guidance, I took the liberty to make the following suggestion:
Create a mantra for Karyn, something simple, and repeat it as many times a day possible; use those idle moments when stuck in traffic or waiting for the bus or drifting off to sleep. The more you repeat it, the more it will become second nature and you¹ll find that you'll be saying it under thoughts or during conversation and you won¹t even really notice it (think Franny and Zooey).
This is part of my own practice. I don't usually share my mantras but for this purpose I have no issue. My mantra is: "Karyn is healed, Karyn is healthy, Karyn is recovered, Karyn is thriving." I repeat this over and over and over. I set times of the day where I practice my mantra, a few minutes here, a few minutes there, it all adds up. Particularly when I feel helpless, or I get sad or I get anxious, I just start repeating this mantra and it really helps me get back on track; the positive track; the one we all need to stay on for Karyn's recovery. I even went so far as to assign this task to my siblings (I take this license with my immediate family!) and I've asked my sisters and brothers to commit to saying this for 3 minutes a day. Just commit to three minutes, before you know it it'll be 5 minutes, then 6 and so forth; it really adds up.
Again, I hope I haven't offended anyone. Please don't regard me as presumptuous; as I say, everyone has their own style and way. But if you encounter anyone who wants to help but would like some direction, I just thought I'd share my experience. I've found this to work in the past for me through a number of difficult times.
Peace and love to you all.
Lisa, proud member of Karyn's ever-growing community
*A suggestion from Jacqui: Let's take it a step further and have everyone chant a mantra at the same time everyday. I'd like to have everyone do this at the time of her radiation treatments, is it 3:00 everyday Julian? I know people won't be able to do this everyday right on time, but if you can remember a few times a week at 3:00 this can be very powerful for Karyn. Just shut the door to your office, go sit in your car or just go sit in the restroom for 5 minutes and visualize Karyn healthy, glowing, happy.
One of the first things Karyn said to me tonight is that she believes very strongly in the power of prayer and she is so grateful that so many people are praying for her and sending her such positive energy. She loved this idea of a group prayer for her during her treatments.

Dear Jacqui,
Sounds like a great idea! I'd really love to participate. Only if you do this at 3pm in California, it is midnight over here in Switzerland. I could explain it to my wife, but our neighbours would be surprised if I started to passionately chant mantras at midnight ...
I hope you don't mind if I just do the silent mantras for the time being ... 8)
Best wishes,
Ralf.
